New Delhi: The idol of Lord Ganesha has been installed at Hubbali-Dharwad’s Idgah ground in Karnataka amid tight security, a day after the High Court upheld the local authorities’ order allowing the celebrations at the location.
As per the rituals, Sriram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik and others installed the idol amid chants of Vedic hymns at the prepared Pandal. “We performed the prayers within the legal framework. Some miscreants had attempted to stop us but we performed our Pooja, which is not only a matter of joy for the people of Hubballi but also across north Karnataka”, he said on the occasion.
The Convener of Rani Chennamma Maidan Gajanan Utsav Mahamandal, K Govardhan Rao said that the ground in question belongs to the Municipal Corporation and hence the Samiti Mahamandal had requested the local administration to allow the Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations there.

“Puja will be conducted in the traditional way, and we’re going to celebrate this festival for 3 days as per the direction of the Municipal Corporation. We’re going to follow all instructions that have been given”, he added.
The Karnataka High Court upheld the permission given by the Dharwad municipal commissioner of Hubbali in a late-night hearing, allowing the celebrations of the Ganesh Chaturthi festival to undergo at the Eidgah maidan.
The court of Justice Ashok S Kinagi found that the property belongs to the Dharwad municipality and Anjuman-e-Islam and was on a leaseholder for 999 years at a fee of Re 1 per year.
