In an ongoing matter between a plot allottee and GNIDA, the case has taken another twist with the arrest order of Ritu Maheshwari.

New Delhi: Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority CEO, Ritu Maheshwari has been sentenced to one month in jail and the court has issued an order for her arrest in an 18-year-old case. In an ongoing matter between a plot allottee and GNIDA, the case has taken another twist with the arrest order of Ritu Maheshwari. The District Consumer Forum has directed the orders and the warrant has been issued.

The case:

Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority

According to the District Consumer Forum, Mahesh Mitra applied for the allotment of a plot of land in 2001. However, the GNIDA did not allot the land and the consumer filed a case in the District Consumer Forum in 2005. The District Forum pronounced its judgment on 18 December 2006. The forum ordered the GNIDA to allot a plot of the area between 1,000 to 2,500 square metres to the petitioner, upon which the terms and conditions of the development authority will continue to apply.

After this, GNIDA went to the State Consumer Forum, which pronounced that the registration amount of Rs 20,000 deposited by Mitra would be returned with 6% interest to date.

Following the decision, Mitra approached the National Consumer Commission, which gave its judgment in May 2014. The National Commission said the State Consumer Commission’s decision was wrong and did some minor changes in District Consumer Forum’s judgement.

Mitra went to the District Forum again, which attached GNIDA’s bank account. Following this, the development authority moved to the State Commission. The District Forum asked Ritu Maheshwari to appear in 2017, and following this delay, again and again, the forum has ordered the CEO to one month in jail.

While the CEO will also have to pay a Rs 2000 fine and implement National Commission’s order in the next 15 days.
