Groom fires in air, kills friend in celebratory firing; act caught on camera

The Army jawan was immediately rushed to the hospital after getting shot by groom, however he succumbed to the injuries.

New Delhi: In a tragic turn of events, a celebratory event turned into crime scene as a groom fired bullets from a licensed gun and killed his Armyman friend in a case of celebratory firing on Tuesday night. The deceased was identified as 38-year-old Babulal Yadav, an Army jawan. The whole incident that happened in UP’s Sonbhadra district, was caught on camera.

In the video clip, groom Manish Madheshia can be seen riding a chariot with baraat in the background. The groom was firing as part of celebratory firing during which a bullet his friend Babu Lal Yadav, an Army jawan. The gun which he used for celebratory firing belonged to Army man i.e. Yadav.


The Army jawan was immediately rushed to the hospital after getting shot by groom, however he succumbed to the injuries.

Police have lodged an FIR in the case and the groom was arrested after the completion of wedding rituals.
Briefing the media, Sonbhadra Superintendent of Police (SP) Amrendra Pratap Singh confirmed that the groom & victim were friends.

A leading portal quoting DIG Sonbhadra said that initially the celebratory firing was done by Army jawan as he carried licensed pistol but later the groom took up the gun and started firing in air. The groom lost control and injured his friend while firing.

Celebratory firing during occasions like weddings and other public events is a criminal offence, though it still remains a practice mostly in small towns.
