Heatwave sweeps India, temperatures to spike further over 5 days

New Delhi: With various parts of the country reeling under intense heat, the India may be bracing for ‘hottest summer ever’. Large parts of the country have already started registering over 40 degree Celsius temperature in April.

Worsening the summer woes of people is the prediction from Weather Department. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned the current heatwave spell with intensify further over next 5 days. According to the forecast, the heatwave conditions will be equally be taxing for all most parts of the country including North-West and Central India and East India.

According to experts, temperatures may scale up to 47 degree Celsius in North-West part of the country, which means states like Punjab, Gujarat, Rajasthan will face sweltering heat in coming days.

“A rise of about two degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature (is) very likely over most parts of northwest India during next 2 days,” IMD said.

Delhi-NCR region is among the most affected part of the country. The capital recorded hottest April day at 43.5 degree Celsius on Thursday, highest in 12 years. Adjoining city Gurugram logged an all-time high of 45.6 degree Celsius on the same day. With over 45 degree, it broke record of past 5 decades.

Western part of the country including Rajasthan, Vidarbha region of Maharasthra along with Rajasthan are likely to face blistering heat for next 4 days. In fact, Vidarbha region & West Rajasthan have already been witnessing temperatures over 40 degree, for a month now.

In the Central India, heatwave conditions are likely to continue for next 5 days i.e. till May 3. Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab & Haryana are also witnessing heat waves and the additional burden of power outage has made life only more difficult.
