Hike in LPG prices triggers meme fest on Twitter, #Rs 50 trends on top

New Delhi: With the cooking gas getting costlier with the price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder, increased by Rs 50, an LPG cylinder will now cost Rs 999.50 in the national capital, New Delhi. The latest revision comes a week after the cost of the 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder was amended from Rs 2,253 to Rs 2,355.50, registering a hike of Rs 102.50. Besides, the 5-kg LPG cylinder costs Rs 655.

The hike has increased the hardships of the common man, who is already overburdened by the surge in the price of petrol and diesel. Moreover, the government has explained the surge in price, blaming the sharp rise in global energy prices owing to supply chain constraints arising out of the Russia-Ukraine crisis.

Since the end of the five state assembly elections, oil marketing and gas firms resumed the revision of petrol, diesel, and cooking gas prices.

Moreover, the subsidised domestic LPG cylinder was increased by Rs 50 on March 22. Notably, domestic LPG prices vary from state to state owing to local taxes. Besides, fuel retailers revise the prices of LPG cylinders at the beginning of every month.

Meanwhile, hashtag Rs 50 trends on Twitter since Saturday morning. The increase in LPG prices has sparked outrage and memes on social media. The netizens are blaming the government with most highlighting how the income of middle-class savings has taken a toll due to the recent price hike.
