New Delhi: India is set to celebrate the completion of 75 years of Independence on August 15, 2022. Almost every Indian citizen grew up singing National Anthem, ‘Jana Gana Mana’ at school. It is taken from the writing of the Indian famous poet and playwright, Rabindranath Tagore. However, it was originally composed in the Bengali language titled Bharoto Bhagyo Bidhata.
Notably, the national anthem of any country depicts the country’s religious and regional diversity and unity. Ahead of Independence Day, we have decided to make you aware of 10 interesting facts about our national anthem.
1. India’s national anthem was reportedly sung for the first time at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress, held in December 1911.
2. The original lines were written in Bengali and the full anthem has 5 stanzas.
3. Of the 5 stanzas, only the first stanza is commonly known and sung by citizens across India.
4. The anthem was translated into the English language in 1919, titled ”Morning Song of India”.
5. In 1905, the text of the national anthem was published in Tatwabodhini Patrika.
6. Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose is the first person who labelled it ‘national anthem’ during the meeting of the German-Indian Society on September 11, 1942. It formally became the anthem in 1950.
7. Indian national anthem can be sung in approximately 52 seconds.
8. Hindi version of the national anthem was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on January 24, 1950.
9. The credit for selecting the national anthem of India goes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose as he was the key person in the selection body of the national anthem.
10. The credit for translating the national anthem into a Hindi-Urdu version goes to Captain Abid Hasan Safrani, titled ‘Sub Sukh Chain’.
