India vaccinates more than 28 crore people; around 3 crore doses still available with states, UTs

If vaccination proceeds at this scale, India may well be on its path of vaccinating enough people to create herd immunity.

New Delhi: With the kicking in of new vaccination policy from today, India is set to reach a big milestone in inoculating people against Covid-19 pandemic. A record 69 lakh vaccine doses were administered in a day today, till the last reports came in.

If vaccination proceeds at this scale, India may well be on its path of vaccinating enough people to create herd immunity. With vaccine supply set to augment next month significantly, the vaccine drive is set to get stronger further.

Over 28 crore people vaccinated

Till date, more than 28 crore of entire population has been vaccinated. According to the ministry, a total of 28,00,36,898 vaccine doses have been administered through 38,24,408 sessions.

These include 1,01,25,143 Healthcare Workers (HCWs) who have taken the 1st dose and 70,72,595 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,71,73,646 Frontline Workers (FLWs) (1st dose), 90,51,173 FLWs (2nd dose), 5,59,54,551 for 18-44 years of age group (1st dose) and 12,63,242 took second dose.

2.98 crore vaccine jabs available with states/UTs

As the Opposition keeps targeting Modi government over vaccine shortage, a PTI report states that 2.98 crore Covid vaccine doses are still available with states and union territories, the Union health ministry said on Monday.

So far, 29,35,04,820 vaccine doses have been provided to states and union territories (UTs) by Centre free of cost.

Of this, the total consumption, including wastage, is 26,36,26,884 doses, according to data available at 8 am on Monday, the ministry said.

“A total 2,98,77,936 COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered. Furthermore, more than 2,310 vaccine doses are in the pipeline and will be received by them within the next three days,” the ministry said.
