Lakhimpur Kheri: Dalit sisters raped and strangulated, says post-mortem report

The accused have been idenfied as Junaid, Chotu, Kareemuddin, Suhail, Arif and Hafeez-ur-Rehman. All the accused except Chotu are said to be native of Lalpur village of Lakhimpur.

New Delhi: While the gruesome murder of Dalit sisters in UP’s Lakhimpuri Kheri district led to nation-wide anger, the autopsy report has confirmed that the minors were violated & raped before being strangulated to death.

The post-mortem report said that the girls died of asphyxiation due to strangulation.

The minor Dalit sisters aged 15 & 17 years were found hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field on Wednesday.

Till now, 6 people have been arrested by the UP police in connection with the rape and murder of 2 minor Dalit sisters.

The accused have been idenfied as Junaid, Chotu, Kareemuddin, Suhail, Arif and Hafeez-ur-Rehman. All the accused except Chotu are said to be native of Lalpur village of Lakhimpur. Junaid was nabbed by the cops after an encounter, during which he was shot in the leg.

Earlier, the distraught family of victims said that the sisters aged 15 & 17 were abducted, raped and then murdered by the locals. Mother said that 2 men came on a motorbike outside their house and kidnapped them while they were arranging fodder for their cattle.

After the matter came to notice, the villagers started search for them. Their bodies were spotted by some villagers, hanging from a tree in a sugarcane field.

Later, the police mounted a manhunt to nab the culprits and arrested 6 persons. The accused have admitted to committing the crime, said reports.

The Lakhimpuri Kheri incident comes as a grim reminder of Badaun horror, when 2 minor sisters aged 14 & 15 were found hanging from a tree in 2014. The family had alleged that they were raped & murdered by assailants including some policemen while later a probe by CBI, they got a clean chit. The probe agency said that it was a case of suicide and not of murder.
