‘Leaving Congress but won’t join BJP’, says former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh

While quitting as CM, Captain had dropped enough hints of ‘rebellion’ against the party and would not be hesitant in taking the matter to extreme to chalk out his future course of action.

New Delhi: Punjab Congress continues to dominate headlines, with Sidhu quitting as PCC chief yesterday and today Captain Amarinder Sigh declaring his imminent exit from the grand old party.

Captain Amarinder Singh, while speaking to a TV channel, made the disclosure about his quitting the Congress party, days after he was ‘humiliated and forced to quit’ as Punjab Chief Minister.

Captain’s decision to quit party has further put the Punjab Congress into throes of crisis, already grappling with its worst-ever predicament in the state.

Captain was ‘hurt and humiliated’ with the way he was treated by the party high command in its bid to effect a transition in the party structure, ahead of 2022 Assembly polls.

“I won’t remain in Congress. I have already made my position very clear. I will not be treated in this manner,” Captain told a leading news channel.

Captain has been unrestrained in slamming the party as well as Navjot Sidhu for ‘digging its own grave’ even as the state faces terror threat from adjoining Pakistan.

Pulling no punches, the Captain has already termed Sidhu and unstable man and Gandhi siblings ‘inexperienced’ and too naïve to handle a critical situation.

Captain was peeved and hurt at his unceremonious exit as the Chief Minister, just months ahead of Assembly elections slated for next year.

While quitting as CM, Captain had dropped enough hints of ‘rebellion’ against the party and had said that he would not be hesitant in taking the matter to extremes in chalking out his future course of action.

His recent meet with Home Minister Amit Shah has set in motion speculation and more speculation about his next move. Talks of his joining the BJP is creating buzz on the social media, however, Captain has clearly denied any such move.

“I won’t be joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP),” former Punjab CM told a news channel.
