New Delhi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership has been suspended after his conviction in the criminal defamation case. He, in a statement, called all Modis to be thieves and was convicted by the Surat Court and the jail sentence of two years has led to his Parliamentary membership getting suspended.

With the suspension, Wayanad’s constituency seat stands vacant.

Congress held a press conference to oppose the suspension.

# Jairam Ramesh added that BJP is afraid after the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

# He alleged that the case happened in Karnataka and as per the law, the Magistrate was to do an inquiry to check if the case came under his jurisdiction, but no such decision was taken under any such inquiry.

# Congress is confident to get a stay of conviction and thus the suspension of the membership will be canceled.
