New Delhi: Odisha has traditionally been a “safe seat” for the Bharatiya Janta Party with the incumbent Biju Janta Dal always rooting for the ruling party since the 1998 Lok Sabha Elections.

BJP and BJD have always been in some sort of alliance or understanding in the state of Odisha. However, this time the BJD vs BJP fight seems to be the talk of the town. Moreover, with the controversies surrounding the temple town of Puri, it will be interesting to see who walks out of the “dangal”.

According to organisations like Chanakya and CVoters, the exit polls show a resounding victory for BJP. Surprisingly, there is a drastic decrease in the seats of BJD. The results of the exit polls are as follows:

Key Battles To Watch Out For

Odisha’s key candidature will start with the sitting MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi (BJP) along with party loyalist Sambit Patra from the temple town Puri (BJP). Other strong contenders in the state are Manju Lata Mandal from Bhadrak (BJD), Sarmistha Sethi from Jajpur (BJD), and Rajashree Mallick from Jagatsinghpur (BJD).

Although the INC has fielded candidates in 20 seats out of the 21, it is anticipated that the main fight is going to be between the BJP and the BJD. However, for INC sitting MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka from Koraput has filed his nomination again. So, it will be interesting to see whether he can move the results once again in his favour.

Lok Sabha election results for Odisha in 2019

Last time the BJD won 12 seats out of the total 21 seats the BJP won 8 seats while the INC won 1 seat. It was seen as a resounding victory for the BJP who had won just 1 seat in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. There was an increase in the vote share of the BJP as well with a 38.4% vote share.
