Ludhiana: Brawl during local cricket match leaves 5 injured, 1 in coma

Two of the injured persons were referred to PGI hospital and out of the two, one is reported to be in a coma.

New Delhi: Five people were beaten and seriously injured during a local cricket match in Ludhiana. According to reports by Punjab Kesari and Dainik Bhaskar, the dispute escalated when the umpire announced the batter to be out, but he was not ready to agree. Two of the injured persons were referred to PGI hospital and out of the two, one is reported to be in a coma.

Umpire dismissed the batter, but he started calling himself not out. When the bowler asked him to go back or call the match a draw, the batting side attacked the bowler. This escalated into a brawl and the victims lost blood. When the batting side was beating the bowler, four of the bowler’s companions came to save him, but they also beat them with stumps and bats.

Cricket

The five people, who were beaten, got injuries on the head and two got unconscious. They were sent for treatment to a nearby private hospital from where the two seriously injured young men were referred to PGI.

According to SHO Vikramjeet Singh of Thana Jamalpur, complaints were received from both parties and the police is currently investigating the case.

Injured Gangu’s wife Chandni said that her husband was playing a cricket match and some people beat him up. His friends who came in to save him were also beaten and his brother Sintu has gone into a coma. The victim’s wife asked for strict action against the accused and said that if the police do not register a case with strict sections, they will stage a sit-in protest.
