Madhya Pradesh: Gwalior resident receives ₹ 3,419 Crore electricity bill, family members hospitalised

Tomar further said that the services of one employee have been terminated and another has been suspended.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a resident of Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh received a power bill of a whopping ₹ 3,419 crore after which her father-in-law fell ill.

Following this, the Madhya Pradesh government-run power company said that this was a “human error” and issued a corrected bill of ₹ 1,300.

The family who received this bill are residents of Shiv Vihar Colony in the city.

Priyanka Gupta’s husband Sanjeev Kankane who had received the bill said that his father fell ill after seeing the electricity bill.

The family had received the bill for the domestic consumption for July.

Sanjeev Kankane further said that the bill was released on July 20, was cross-verified through the portal of the Madhya Pradesh Madhya Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company (MPMKVVC) but was found to be correct.

However, the bill was later corrected by the state power company.

Further, MP Energy Minister Pradyuman Singh Tomar informed reporters that the human error has been rectified and action is being taken against the concerned employee.

Also, a show cause notice has been issued to the junior engineer concerned, said Tomar.
