Madhya Pradesh to bring back 24 students from violence-affected Manipur

New Delhi: Madhya Pradesh government has announced to bring back its 24 students from violence-hit regions of Manipur. The announcement comes a day after MP CM Shivraj Singh spoke to his Manipur counterpart N Biren Singh on phone.

The North-Eastern state remains tense after violent face-offs, reportedly between two communities – Meitis & Kuki inhabitants of the state and has resulted in death of over 60 people while thousands getting displaced from their homes.

MP Home Minister Narottam Mishra told media that students will be flown back from Manipur to Madhya Pradesh via Delhi. Arrangements have been made for return of at least 50 students.

A day ago, MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan also held telephonic interaction with Manipur counterpart regarding ‘safe return of students’.

MP government currently has records of 24 students & is facilitating their return, however, as & when more students come in contact, their return would be worked out.

The students will be flown from Imphal to Guwahati airport and then to New Delhi airport via Alliance Airline flight.

These students will be provided shelter at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in the national capital and from there, flown back to Indore or Bhopal, depending on the location of their hometown.

Manipur got engulfed in a spate of arson & violence over proposals of including Meiti community in the list of Scheduled Tribes (ST).

According to last reports, more than 60 lives have been lost in violence while more than 230 were left injured. Following series of violent incidents, many CPRF teams were rushed to the state while Army & Assam Police columns have also been deployed to restore peace & calm in the region.
