Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced to give assistance of Rs 10 Lakh to the family of Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman who lost his life in the line of duty on October 21.

“Agniveer Akshay Gawate of Buldhana district of Maharashtra died while on duty in Siachen. Expressing grief over Akshay’s death, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has announced that the state government has announced an assistance of Rs 10 lakh to his family,” the CM office said.

Jawan Akshay Gawate was a resident of Pimpalgaon Sarai in Buldhana district. The Chief Minister expressed condolences to Akshay’s family on his demise.

Gawate Akshay Laxman, an operator, lost his life amid the treacherous terrains of the Siachen glacier on Sunday. He is the first Agniveer to have laid down his life in operations.

The last rites of Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman were performed after his mortal remains were brought to his residence in Pimpalgaon Sarai village of Buldhana district on Monday.

Expressing support for the bereaved family of Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman, the Indian Army on Sunday sought to clear the air on compensation to the next of kin, saying that the same is “governed by the relevant terms and conditions of service of the soldier”.

Agniveer Laxman’s father, Laxman Gawate told ANI, “After getting a B.Com degree, he wanted to join the Army. I last spoke to him on October 20. He had asked me if I was keeping well and if his brother and other family members were doing fine.”

The Indian Army also paid tribute to Agniveer Gawate Akshay Laxman. The Indian Army’s Fire and Fury Corps offered its deepest condolences to the bereaved family.

 

“Quartered in snow silent to remain, when the bugle calls, they shall rise and march again. All ranks of Fire and Fury Corps salute the supreme sacrifice of Agniveer (Operator) Gawate Akshay Laxman, in the line of duty, in the unforgiving heights of Siachen, and offer deepest condolences to the family,” the Fire and Fury Corps posted on X.
