New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a 23-year-old man was attacked with sharp weapons by a group of 15 men in Maharashtra’s Ahmednagar district allegedly over a post supporting suspended Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Nupur Sharma.

The incident is said to have taken place on August 4 late in the evening, at Karjat town, about 145km from Pune.

The victim has been identified as Prateek Pawar, he was seriously injured in the attack and is currently under treatment and admitted to the intensive care unit of a hospital.

Victim’s cousin Prajyot Pawar, said Prateek is an activist and writes posts etc on social media. Recently, he posted about Umesh Kolhe and Kanhaiya Lal.

Prateek was beaten by a group of 15-20 people attacked him when he was alone. He was attacked with sharp weapons like swords and knives. Also, he  had received threatening calls for posting about Kanhiya Lal and Umesh Kolhe and supporting Nupur Sharma

After the incident, an FIR has been registered and four accused has been arrested.

A case has been registered under section 307, 143, 147, 148 149, 504 and 323 of IPC.

Suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma’s made a controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad resulting to a widespread violent protests across the country. Her statement also drew condemnation from some Gulf countries.

Also, Kanhaiya Lal and Umesh Kolhe, who had reportedly supported Nupur Sharma on social media posts, were later killed allegedly by radicals.
