Male cheetah, Uday from South Africa dies in MP’s Kuno National Park

But two hours later, he lost consciousness and was shifted to an isolation ward for further treatment.

New Delhi: In a shocking incident, a second Cheetah, 6 out of the 11 which was bought from South Africa died in the Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday.

According to forest officials, the cause of the death of the Cheetah, identified as Uday will be known only after an autopsy.

Uday is the second cheetah to die at this park in a moth. Earlier, a cheetah named Sasha who was also brought to India from Namibia has died due to renal failure.

JS Chauhan, the MP forest chief wildlife warden, said that the wildlife medical team when inspected the Cheetah, he appeared to be sick. Soon the doctors and cheetah experts shifted Uday to a quarantine Boma (enclosure) immediately.

The Officials said that during routine check up at around 9 am, the Cheetah, Uday was seen sitting in a lethargic state. When he was approched by the forest experts, he got up and staggered a bit.

But two hours later, he lost consciousness and was shifted to an isolation ward for further treatment.

JS Chauhan said that Uday died at around 4 pm and the cause of his death will be clear only after autopsy.

According to South African cheetah expert Vincent Van Der Merwe, the Cheetah was suffering from chronic stress.

Vincent Van Der Merwe said Uday was very healthy before he was shifted to Boma in July 2022 for the translocation project.

Merwe also said that Uday lost his fitness and was suffering from chronic stress.

He added, the Cheetah’s must go back into the wild as they are unhappy in cages.
