Mamata rejigs Bengal cabinet, 8 ministers including Babul Supriyo take oath

The cabinet rejig comes close on the heels of arrest of former TMC minister & one of Mamata’s top aide, Partha Chatterjee in the Bengal teacher recruitment scam.

New Delhi: West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee carried out a major reshuffle in the state cabinet, aimed at creating a ‘Young Team’ that could go far in meeting the aspirations of people.

The cabinet rejig comes close on the heels of arrest of former TMC minister & one of Mamata’s top aide, Partha Chatterjee in the Bengal teacher recruitment scam.

Those who took oath of office as Ministers included Babul Supriyo, Snehasish Chakroborty, Partha Bhowmick, Udayan Guha and Pradeep Majumdar, Hansda and Roy Choudhury as Ministers with Independent charge and Tajmul Hussain & Satyajit Burman as Ministers of State (MoS).

With this reshuffle, the Mamata govt has attempted to reach out to downtrodden & tribal sections of Bengal and create a ‘holistic cabinet’.

Partha Chhaterjee, TMC minister and his aide

Partha Chatterjee was stripped of all portfolios after his alleged involvement in SSC scam brought shame to the party. Partha handled 4 crucial ministries including Industry, Commerce and enterprises, Information Technology and Parliamentary Affairs.

Babul Supriyo was the most anticipated names to have been given berth in the Mamata cabinet. He quit the BJP, jumped ship to TMC and contested on TMC ticket. He is currently TMC MLA from Ballygunge constituency.
