Maradona’s heritage watch stolen by security guard who worked in a Dubai firm

According to police sources, the accused took permission of his employer for retuning to India on account of his father’s illness. He arrived at the IGI airport on 15th August, 2021 and apparently went missing.

New Delhi: In a rare case of international probe & action, Assam Police on Saturday recovered the heritage watch of legendary footballer Diego Maradona. The police apprehended Wazid Hussein, the man who stole footballer’s watch from Dubai and fled to Assam.

Accused Wazid was arrested from his residence in Sibsagar in the wee hours of morning today.

Assam Police zeroed in on the accused with active co-ordination from Dubai police HQs and recovered the heritage Hublot watch.

According to Assam DGP, the limited edition watch signed by legendary footballer was stolen by Wazid Hussain who had fled the country after stealing it.

Wazid Hussein, the prime suspect in the theft case. He worked as a security guard for a company in Dubai that had the permission to store iconic soccer player’s belongings.

According to police sources, the accused took permission of his employer for retuning to India on account of his father’s illness. He arrived at the IGI airport on 15th August, 2021 and apparently went missing. He apparently stole the limited edition watch by breaking into company’s safe records and escaped the country by faking his father’s illness.

Assam Police will take further action in the theft case.

A senior police official said Superintendent of Police (SP), Sivasagar Rakesh Roushan would brief the media at 2.00 pm on the recovery.
