Meghalaya Exit Polls 2023: Hung house predicted in state, Conrad Sangma’s NPP to emerge as largest party

Ahead of the results on March 2, Exit Polls are predicting the result in favour of NPP, but with no clear majority.

New Delhi: The elections for the Meghalaya Assembly were held on February 27, with a 63.91% voter turnout recorded till 3 pm. The elections were held on 59 out of 60 seats with a total voter population of just over 13 lakh. Ahead of the results on March 2, Exit Polls are predicting the result in favour of NPP, but with no clear majority.

Polling for the Sohiong Assembly constituency was postponed after the demise of the state’s former Home Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate HDR Lyngdoh.

NPP

The Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party government will look out to win yet another poll in the state. The party is likely to get 18 to 24 seats while 31 are required for the majority.

Other big parties emerging in this election include Trinamool Congress (TMC), who share an influence from West Bengal and have their appeal in Meghalaya too. Congress and Bhartiya Janata Party are likely to get between 3 to 6 and 6 to 11 seats respectively.
