Ali’s family members claimed that he was thrashed by the neighbours in village. They had also warned him while he actively campaigned for the saffron party.

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh police have arrested two person in connection with murder of 28-year-old Muslim man in Kushinagar. The man named Babar was lynched to death for supporting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and celebrating its victory in the recently concluded Assembly elections.
25-year-old Babar Ali succumbed to the injuries on Sunday morning at a Lucknow hospital. He was a resident of Kathgarhi village of Kushinagar district.

The incident purportedly took place on March 20, when he was returning from his shop while chanting slogans to hail Yogi-led BJP victory in the state.

Ali’s family members claimed that he was thrashed by the neighbours in village. They had also warned him while he actively campaigned for the saffron party.

His family claims that Ali was thrashed & thrown from the terrace of his home on March 20.

“He was standing outside the house, when four people, armed with sticks and sharp-edged weapon, came and started hitting him. Babar ran to the terrace where he was beaten by them. After he fell unconscious, they threw him from the terrace,” Ali’s brother Chande Alam told the newsmen.

Ali’s wife Fatima was at home when the incident happened.

UP CM Yogi orders probe into Babar’s death

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, offering condolences over Babar’s death, has directed the officers to conduct a thorough investigation into the matter.

Babar’s wife Fatima has lodged a complaint at the police station, based on which an FIR was registered against the neighbours.

The matter could have gone unnoticed if the family had not refused to bury his body. Tension prevailed in the city as Babar’s family refused to do his last rites unless perpetrators of grave crime were caught & punished.

Tempers cooled a little after Sub-Divisional Magistrate Varun Kumar Pandey visited the family and assured them that the culprits would be arrested and action would be taken against them. Kushinagar MLA Panchanand Pathak also met the family and convinced them to perform the last rites.
