New Delhi: In a breakthrough the Narcotics Control Bureau has detained two drug dealers Akshay Chhabra and Jaspal Singh under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Both the accused will be sent to the Dibrugarh Jail in Assam.

Who is Akshay Chhabra and Jaspal Singh?
Akshay Chhabra hails from Ludhiana and Jaspal Singh hails from Sahnewal in Ludhiana. The two drug dealers were logged in the Central Jail of Bhatinda and both were running their operations while they were locked up in jail. NCB arrested over 20 people so far in connection with the case. The officers seized over 40kg of heroin. 0.557 kg opium, 23.645 narcotics power from the suspects. Jaspal Singh is the main accused in the case.
What is the PIT-NDPS Act 1988?
This act works for people who are repeat offenders. Many drug dealers have been charged with this act and were sent to the Dibrugarh jail in Assam. Dibrugarh Jail is one of the oldest prisons in India built in 1859.
According to a senior NCB official, a person can be detained in the PIT-NDPS act, even if he is serving a jail term. The act continues even if the person gets bail in any case. The officers are also interrogating the accused to find out if there are more people involved in the case.
The NCB officials are keeping a close eye on the activities of the two drug dealers. They are also probing if more people are involved in the drug racket and if their network is spread outside India.
