New Delhi: While many incidents of arson & violence followed by communal clashes took place during Ram Navami processions in as many as 7 states, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath claimed that the state saw no instances of violence.

Hinting that the most populous state was setting new example of governance, Yogi Adityanath said, “there was no tu-tu main main (arguments).. leave aside riots. This is proof of UP’s new progressive way of thinking”.

“This is a symbol of UP’s new development saga. There exists no space for riots, lawlessness or goondagardi anymore,” CM said at an event in Lucknow.

Yogi Adityanth’s remarks assume importance in light of the fact that Ram Navami processions was marred by violence at many places in the country.
Boasting about peaceful & progressive UP, Yogi said that this happened despite Ramzan being observed at the same time.

“UP has a population of 25 crore. There were more than 800 processions for Hindu festival across the state. And along with that, holy month of Ramzan is also being observed. There must have been programmes linked to Rozas too. But nowhere, was there any tu-tu main,” CM Yogi said.

While the nation celebrated the birth of Lord Ram, processions were taken out across the country but in as many as 7 states, the Ram Navami processions saw violence, apparently ignited by stone-pelting by people of other religious faith.

Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Karnataka saw violence. Police personnel had to fire teargas shells to defuse the situation. Khargone in Madhya Pradesh & Himmatnagar in Gujarat saw repeated incidents of violence as the flare-ups continued for next 2-3 days after Ram Navami.
