New Delhi: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met secretly on Tuesday ahead of the counting of votes in the three northeastern states of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura today.

All these three northeastern states are waiting eagerly to see who will form the government here.

The two chief ministers met each other at midnight of March 1-2. The Meeting between both leaders was held amid exit polls forecast of a hung assembly in Meghalaya.

According to the Exit poll, a ‘hung house’ is predicted in the Meghalaya Assembly.

This time Meghalaya CM and NPP Chief Conrad Sangma fought the Assembly Elections all alone.

Why did they meet?

According to reports, both the CMs met and discussed the possibility of a post-election alliance. It is being said that the meeting between the two friends was held at a hotel in Guwahati.

What Conrad Sangma said after Exit-Poll?

After the Exit-poll, Conrad Sangma predicted a hung Assembly in the state and said that his party, NPP will return to power with a majority.

Also while talking about the alliance, he neither agreed nor did he denied it.

Meghalaya Elections 2023:

The state which voted on February 27th recorded a voting percentage of over 76 per cent. This year, polling was held at 3,419 polling stations across 59 Assembly constituencies in the state.

Out of the Assembly constituencies in Meghalaya, 36 constituencies come under Khasi, Jaintia Hills region while 24 constituencies are in Garo Hills region.

However, polling was postponed in the Sohiong Assembly constituency after the sudden demise of the state’s former Home Minister and United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate from the seat HDR Lyngdoh.
