Nupur Sharma Row: Student urges rioters to migrate to Arab nations, gets arrested after social media post incited violence

“Protesters also attacked the Beldanga police station and threw stones at police personnel. To disperse the mob, police used tear gas”

New Delhi: An enraged mob in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal pelted stones and bricks at the Beladanga police station on Friday, demanding the arrest of a college student for her social media post.

Under the circumstances of ambush and havoc, the police subsequently detained the woman, who happens to be a first-year undergraduate student.

According to the police, the student was arrested for allegedly making a social media post in support of an objectionable comment made by former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma on Prophet Mohammed.

Apparently, the girl named Aishwani had made a social media post on Friday evening, asking the rioters in the state to migrate to the nearby Islamic countries.

Though the police have not issued any official statements regarding the violent events that unfolded on Saturday, a police officer told the media, “Violent protests erupted in Beldanga, where she lives, as agitators demanded her arrest and attacked her home”.

“Protesters also attacked the Beldanga police station and threw stones at police personnel. To disperse the mob, police used tear gas”, he added.

Watch:

“After we received a written complaint from them, we arrested her. Necessary investigations are underway”, news agency PTI quoted a police officer.

As of now, no arrests have been made in the violence that took place on Saturday. An officer told that searches are underway for those who ambushed the police station and pelted stones.

Meanwhile, the girl was presented in the court on Saturday, and was send to five days of judicial custody.
