New Delhi: Ahmedabad’s Vijay Goswami and his family narrowly escaped the Morbi horror as returned mid-way from the suspension bridge out of fear of getting injured as some people started shaking the bridge intentionally.
A few hours later, their fears proved right when that bridge on the Machchhu river, a tourist attraction, collapsed around 6.30 pm, killing at least 90 people.
Several hours after Vijay left the spot with his family on Sunday afternoon, the bridge situated on the Machchhu river collapsed, claiming lives of over 100 people in the accident.

Goswami told that some youths deliberately started shaking the bridge, which happens to be a popular tourist destination, which made it difficult for other people to balance or walk on it. He said that his family and himself returned mid-way from the bridge as they felt unsafe there.
He further told that they even complained about the youngster’s act to the staff of the Morbi Bridge, though they never paid any heed to it.
The old bridge dates back to the British era and was recently reopened for tourists after being shut for nearly 7 seven months due to renovation work. Goswami told that many families and groups of tourists had visited the site to enjoy the Diwali vacation.
