
New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the Mega Bihu programme along with Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. More than 11,000 folk dancers accompanied by musical instruments presented the Bihu Dance in large numbers. PM Modi also addressed the gathering and called Assam the ‘A1 state’.

Addressing the public meeting, PM Modi remembered his statement during the state assembly elections where he said that people will say “A for Assam.” He added that today Assam is truly an A1 state. He said that the celebrations are a reflection of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshth Bharat,’ and added that the Bihu celebration is an inspiration to ‘Sabka Sath, Sabka Vikas’.
Talking about the festival, he said that Bihu is the symbol of mankind and nature coming together and is an occasion that unites everyone, that is why Bihu cannot be limited to a festival. He added that to understand Bihu one requires emotion as it cannot be put into words.

The PM also remembered Bhupen Hazarika on the occasion and recited a few lines from the popular song ‘Biswa Bijoy Naujawan’.

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wished everyone on the special occasion and also expressed gratitude towards PM Modi.
Earlier today, PM Modi addressed the gathering at the Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of Guwahati High Court and talked about the situation of undertrials and the judicial system in the state. He also inaugurated AIIMS Guwahati, the ‘Aapke Dwar Ayushman’ campaign and several other projects for Assam, including five railway projects.
