PM Modi instructs officials to closely monitor developments and evaluate safety of Indian nationals in violence-hit Sudan

PM Modi today chaired a high level meeting.

New Delhi: PM Modi today (April 21, Friday) chaired a high-level meeting to take the stock and also reviewd the situation of Indians in violence-hit Sudan.

PMO after high-level meeting said that PM Modi instructed relevant officials to remain vigilant and to closely monitor the developments and evaluate safety of Indian nationals in Sudan.

Prime Minister also received first-hand report of conditions on ground,where over 3,000 Indians are living in Sudan.

PM Modi’s meeting comes days after India described the situation in Sudan as “very tensed”. Earlier, it was said that India is currently focusing to ensure the safety and well-being of the Indians in Sudan.

Today’s meeting was attended by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra and several others.

Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R Hari Kumar, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari were also present at the meeting.

In the fight between the military and  paramilitary force in Sudan has left at least 30 people from Karnataka’s Hakki Pikki tribe stranded in the Sudanese city of El-Fasher.

At least 300 people died in the fight between its army and a paramilitary force.

On April 20th, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar met UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York and discussed the developments in Sudan.

Indian government is in continuous touch with its citizens stuck in Sudan, Jaishankar said.

There was also a heated exchange between External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and former Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on this issue on micro blogging site Twitter.
