New Delhi: As the controversy over alleged blasphemous remarks on Prophet Muhammad rages, the Delhi Police has clamped down on some prominent persons accused of spreading hate via offensive social media posts or via their statements.

The Delhi Police has booked suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, expelled leader Naveen Jindal and also journalist Saba Naqvi for allegedly spreading ‘hate’.

The Delhi Police Special Cell lodged an FIR against 8 accused, including Naveen Kumar Jindal, Delhi BJP’s media unit cell in charge, journalist Saba Naqvi, Hindu Mahasabha office bearer Pooja Shakun Pandey, Maulana Mufti Nadeem from Rajasthan and Peace Party chief spokesperson Shadab Chauhan. Another FIR was registered against Nupur Sharma, according to police.

Nupur Sharma, the BJP functionary whose televised debate clip went viral, has created enough heartburn & resentment in the Arab world with most of them coming forwar to slam India for itsa ‘poor minority rights.’

Nupur has been booked under sections like Sections 153 (wantonly giving provocation with intent to cause riot), 505 (statements conducing to public mischief) of the IPC. Police will soon issue summons to the accused in question and will ask them to join the probe.

“The police team will probe the role of many other social media platforms which were apparently used in promoting false information about the intention of creating unrest in the cyberspace,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (IFSO) KPS Malhotra said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Police has provided ‘preventive’ security to Nupur Sharma & her family after claims that she was receiving death threats. Cops have lodged a case of criminal intimidation against some suspects.
