New Delhi: The Indian government on Wednesday appointed R Ventkataramani as the new Attorney General of the country. He will hold the position for the next 3 years. Ventkatarranmani will succeed K K Venugopal who is set to retire on September 30.

Notably, the 91-year-old Venugopal took the office in July 2017. He got an extension from the government as the top law officer of the country for three months on June 29.

The government appointed the new Attorney General as Venugopal had expressed his unwillingness to hold the office due to his advanced age.

Besides, Another senior advocate, Mukul Rohatgi, had a few days ago declined to become the new attorney general.
