Raj Subramaniam is FedEx new CEO: Meet the IITian who will lead global firm

Making an official announcement, FedEx CEO Smith said, “As we look toward what’s next, I have a great sense of satisfaction that a leader of the caliber of Raj Subramaniam will take FedEx into a very successful future.” He founded the company, 50 years ago.

New Delhi: Indian American Raj Subramaniam is set to take over as the new Chief Executive Officer of global company FedEx. Replacing the current CEO Frederick W Smith, Raj will look to consolidate & expand the business potential of US-based transnational courier delivery giant.

In last one to two decades, Indian Americans have been made their presence felt in Silicon valley and are now commanding many MNC firms. From Sundar Pichai to Satya Nadella, the list of Indian Americans taking charge of business behemoths goes on and on.
Raj Subramaniam is the latest to join the elite list of CEOs.

Who is Raj Subramaniam

The 54-year-old Raj Subramaniam had joined FedEx in 1991.

Subramaniam served as President and Chief Operating Officer of FedEx Corp, before being elevated to the CEO position. Over the years, he donned many roles in the company and served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing and Communications Officer.

He has also served as the President and Chief Executive Officer of FedEx Express, the world’s largest express transportation company.

Hailing from Trivandrum, he studied chemical engineering at IIT Bombay in 1987 and later got master’s degree from Syracuse University in 1989. He also holds MBA degree in Marketing and Finance from the University of Texas.

As President and CEO-elect of FedEx Corporation, Subramaniam will be responsible for steering the company and all its associate firms including FedEx Express, FedEx Ground, FedEx Freight, FedEx Services, FedEx Office.

Overall, Subramaniam has an industry experience of more than 30 years at FedEx.
