Rajeshwar Singh: From top ED officer to first-time MLA, defeated rival by over 50,000 votes

New Delhi: A silent departure from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to an outstanding entry in UP politics marks the beginning of political career of BJP candidate Rajeshwar Singh.

The former ED officer won the Sarojini Nagar seat in Lucknow with a big margin of over 50,000 votes against nearest closest SP rival.

Singh defeated SP rival Mishra by about 56,186 votes. Mishra is believed to be a close lieutenant of Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav.

After the declaration of result, the elated BJP legislator also posted a picture of him receiving certificate from EC authorities and said that it was the victory of people of his constituency.

“I would say that this victory of the party in Uttar Pradesh is a victory of the ideology of the BJP. The ideology of the country first. The other parties we were fighting had the ideology of family first, mafia first, criminals first,” Singh said.

Victory makes 49th birthday extra special

What comes as an icing on the cake in Singh’s victory is that the ED officer is celebrating his 49th birthday today (11th March).

Singh served the investigative agency as its joint director in Lucknow zonal office and took voluntary retirement from service to join politics.

Rajeshwar Singh, a decorated officer of the investigative agency, is credited for investigative several high-profile cases like 2G spectrum scam, Aircel Maxis deal and bringing to successful conclusion.

The ED officer had started his Civil Services career with UP police, where he served for 10 long years. For next 14 years, he served as a senior officer in ED. His stint with ED was a central deputation but he went on to carve a name for himself as he fearlessly took on the scamsters & mafias head on and brought them to book.
