Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received grant of Rs 1.35 crores from Chinese Embassy: Amit Shah

Home Minister Amit Shah targeted Congress and accused the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) of receiving grants from the Chinese Embassy during 2005-2007.

New Delhi: The ongoing Winter Session of the Parliament saw adjournment and ruckus amid discussions regarding the Twang clash between the Indian and Chinese troops. Following the adjournment, Home Minister Amit Shah targeted Congress and accused the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) of receiving grants from the Chinese Embassy during 2005-2007. Home Minister addressed the press and targeted opposition for the ruckus in Parliament.

Amit Shah accused Congress of deliberately disrupting the Question Hour in the Lok Sabha. He said that question number 5 on the list was regarding the cancellation of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, which made Congress anxious. He said that if there would have been a Question Hour, he would have said in the Lok Sabha that Rajiv Gandhi Foundation received a grant of Rs 1.35 crores from the Chinese Embassy during 2005-2007. He added that this was not appropriate as per FCRA, so, as per the rules, Home Ministry cancelled the registration of RGF.

Amit Shah also said that Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will make a statement on the Tawang clash in the Parliament. When the proceedings in Lok Sabha were resumed after the adjournment, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh made his statement and said no Indian soldiers were dead or severely injured in the clash. He added that the Indian Army stopped PLA from encroaching upon the nation’s territory in Arunachal Pradesh.
