Rana Ayyub faces ire of netizens for stoking row over Ganesh Utsav in Idgah ground

On Wednesday morning, the idol of Lord Ganesha was installed as per the rituals in the Puja Pandal prepared on the ground amid heavy security

New Delhi: The Karnataka High Court upheld local authorities’ decision of allowing Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on Hubbali’s Idgah ground on Tuesday in a late-night hearing. The court found that the property belongs to the Dharwad municipality and Anjuman-e-Islam and was on a leaseholder for 999 years at a fee of Re 1 per year.

On Wednesday morning, the idol of Lord Ganesha was installed as per the rituals in the Puja Pandal prepared on the ground amid heavy security.

Sriram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik told the media, “We performed the prayers within the legal framework. Some miscreants had attempted to stop us but we performed our Pooja, which is not only a matter of joy for the people of Hubballi but also across north Karnataka”.

Meanwhile, the pious celebration on the Hubbali-Dharwad’s Idgah ground didn’t go well with The Washington Post opinion columnist Rana Ayyub, who is often seen lauding the ‘Ganga-Jamuni Tehzeeb’ in the country.

In her recent tweet, Ayyub wrote, “Imagine having all the land at your disposal but wanting to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in an Idgah. This sickness”.

Netizens were quick to dig out Ayyub’s old tweets lauding the Sikhs and Hindu communities to open doors of their Gurudwaras and Temples for the persons of Muslim faith, while slamming her hypocrisy.
