Republic Day 2023: ‘Nari Shakti’ emerges as prominent theme at R-Day parade

New Delhi: Participation of women was a highlight of the Republic Day parade at the Kartavya Path. From all-women Central Reserve Police Force to women led regiments to state tableau, the theme of ‘Nari Shakti’ was prevalent throughout. President Doupadi Murmu stood to salute the 74th Republic Day parade, her first after she assumed the office last year.

Participation of women in Republic Day parade:

1. Lt Chetana Sharma with AKASH weapon system

Lt Chetana Sharma of 512 Light AD Missile Regiment (SP) accompanied Captain Sunil Dasharathe with the AKASH weapon system of 27 Air Defence Missile Regiment, ‘the Amritsar Airfield’.

2. All-women Central Reserve Police Force

All-women Central Reserve Police Force marched at the Kartavya Path as President Murmu took a salute.

3. Kerela’s tableau

Kerala’s tableau represented ‘Nari Shakti’ and folk traditions of women empowerment. The tableau showed Karthyayani Amma, the winner of Nari Shakti Puraskar in 2020 who top scored the literacy examination at the age of 96.

4. Central Armed Police Force’s tableau

Central Armed Police Force’s tableau marched at the Kartavya Path, depicting the theme of ‘Nari Shakti’.

5. Karnataka’s tableau

Karnataka’s tableau symbolised the achievements of state’s three exceptional women. It depicted Sulagitti Narasamma – a midwife, Tulsi Gowda Halakki – known as ‘Vruksha Maate’ and Saalumarada Thimmakka. These women are remembered for their selfless contribution to society.

6. Lt Cdr Disha Amrith as Contingent Commander

Lt Cdr Disha Amrith as Contingent Commander, led the Naval contingent of 144 young sailors.

Achievements by Indian women in a parade led by a woman President is epitome of women empowerment reflected at the 74th Republic Day. Even while addressing the nation on the eve of the Republic Day, President Murmu said that women empowerment and equality are no longer mere slogans and added that she is sure of the fact that women will make the maximum contribution to shape the nation.
