‘RSS has many good things…’: Kerala-based Christian leader lauds RSS

A Christian leader in Kerala praised Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and pointed out the ‘good things’ taught at the Shakhas.

New Delhi: A Christian leader in Kerala praised Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and pointed out the ‘good things’ taught at the Shakhas. According to a report by Keralakaumudi.com, Geevarghese Mar Yulios, the Metropolitan Bishop of Kunnamkulam Diocese of Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church, lauded the Sangh and talked about the ideology of RSS and the church.

Talking to the media, Geevarghese stated that it is not correct to look at RSS by taking into account just one part of the ideology and added that the Church does not have a political untouchability towards Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP). It is to be noted that RSS is considered the mentor and the parent organisation of the BJP.

The Metropolitan Bishop also said that the RSS has many good things and gave the example of physical training for defense purposes. He added that the RSS workers are not doing the training to attack or kill anyone.

On the ideological front, he said that the Orthodox Church has a theory that they do not interpret the Holy Book just by taking one line from it, but it is interpreted holistically. He indicated that RSS’ ideology should also be seen holistically.

RSS is known to be a Hindu-dominant and Hindutva ideological organisation but it also includes Muslim and Christian members. Though these communities are not a participant in large numbers, there have been steps to diversify to provide for inclusion in Shakhas.

Recently, PM Narendra Modi also visited the Sacred Heart Cathedral Catholic Church in Delhi on the occasion of Easter Sunday.
