Sainya Dham in Uttarakhand: Soil to be collected from martyrs’ homes for building state’s ‘5th dham’

Uttarakhand is gearing up for adding another holy site – ‘Sainya Dham’, which will be an ideal tribute to all the martyred soldiers of the state.

New Delhi: Uttarakhand, also called ‘Dev Bhumi’ or ‘the land of Gods’ is visited by lakhs of pilgrims every year as part of Char dham Yatra. The hilly state is now gearing up for adding another holy site – ‘Sainya Dham’, which will be an ideal tribute to all the martyred soldiers of the province.

Uttarakhand CM Tirath Singh Rawat has got cracking over the ‘Sainya Dham’ project and directed officials to begin work in this direction on urgent basis.

Ganesh Joshi, cabinet minister in Rawat govt informed via Twitter that a high-level review meeting took place on Tuesday, in which crucial decisions were taken regarding the construction of ‘fifth dham’ in the state.

Soil from martyrs’ home, ‘Samman Patra’ to his family members

Ganesh Joshi informed that a ‘Samman Patra’ (letter of appreciation) will be handed over to family of each solider, martyred in line of duty since 1st World war.

“Soil will be collected from every martyr home and will be used in construction of the Sainya Bhawan,” he informed.

Officials have been directed to prepare a roadmap for launching and expediting this project in next 10 days. The project will kick off from Sawadh of Chamoli and Dhaarchhoola in Pithoragardha.

Once built, it will have details of the soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation. It will also house details of the rich legacy of soldiers from Uttarakhand and their contribution over these years.

Compensation amount raised from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh

In January this year, the foundation of Sainya Dham was laid down by former Uttarakhand CM Trivendra Singh Rawat — a memorial dedicated to soldiers in Dehradun’s Purkul village.

Till now, the amount provided by the state government to the families of martyred soldiers was ₹10 lakh but that was increased to ₹15 lakh under former CM Trivendra Singh Rawat’s tenure.

From where, came the inspiration to build ‘5th dham’?

The initiative of setting up the Sainya Dham was taken after Prime Minister Modi, during an election rally in Rudrapur in March 2019, said: “Devbhumi Uttarakhand has char dhams, but today I add a fifth -Sainya Dham- as every second house in this state is of an army man.”

Officials said that apart from soil, some belongings of martyrs would be brought from his house to be put at museum in the Sainya Dham. It would motivate the youths from neighbouring states visiting the site.
