Dave also went on to say that he got skeptical when Justice Ramana rook over as the CJI and even wrote an article in a leading daily about his misgivings and apprehensions but the CJI exceeded all expectations.

New Delhi: It was a rare occasion when the courtroom of Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana turned emotional as a senior advocate broke into tears while others extended farewell greetings. CJI Ramana is retiring today after tenure of almost 8 years at the Supreme Court.

Senior counsel Dushyant Dave got teary eyed and choked during speech while bidding adieu to the outgoing CJI on Friday.

Heaping praise on the outgoing CJI, Dave said that he maintained checks and balances between the judiciary, executive and the parliament.

“I speak on behalf of vast multitude of citizens of this country. You stood up for them. You upheld their rights and the constitution. When you took over, I was sceptical of what the court had gone through. I must say, you excelled our expectations. You maintained checks and balances between judiciary, executive and the parliament. You did with a spine, Dave said.

Dave also went on to say that he got skeptical when Justice Ramana rook over as the CJI and even wrote an article in a leading daily about his misgivings and apprehensions but the CJI exceeded all expectations.

” When you took over, I wrote an article that I was skeptical. But Your Lordships exceeded our expectations. You did what was really expected to be done by this Court,” Dave stated.

“I may be very pessimistic but I have great satisfaction that your lordship is leaving the court in great hands of Justice Lalit”, Dave said.

Sibal’s lavish praise for CJI Ramana

Sibal also praised outgoing CJI for ‘maintaining balance in court even during turbulent times.’

“We are going through very turbulent times. It is difficult for the ship to sail. This court will remember you for maintaining balance even in turbulent times. You have ensured that dignity and integrity of this court is maintained,” Sibal said.

Today was the last working day of CJI NV Ramana and what made the day more special was LIVE streaming of the proceedings of Ceremonial bench of CJI.
