New Delhi: Fathima Noora & Adila Nazrin, a lesbian couple of Kerala are making headlines for securing their relationship, courtesy High Court. The couple, estranged by their families, have been allowed to stay together again.
The duo came into limelight after their ‘illicit’ affair came to light and their families took strong objection to it. Noora was also allegedly forced into conversion therapy by her family.
It was after Noora’s partner Adila went to court and filed a habeas corpus petition, the court allowed them to live together. The Noora’s partner first went to Thamarassery police station but her plea was declined by police claiming that this was a family issue.
Fathima & Adila, both in 20s eloped after family objection
According to a leading daily, Adila & Noora, both in their early 20s have been seeing each other for some time. When their family got a whiff of their relationship, they objected to it. Fearing trouble, the lesbian couple eloped & took shelter at Vanaja Colllective in Calicut. Their families traced their whereabouts and reached Calicut same night. The girls were coaxed & persuaded by families to give up their relation but they didn’t agree.
Following this, both Adila & Noora were taken to a relative’s house where they were persuaded again to snap their ties. From emotional talk to putting pressure, the girls were even forced not to take nap as the family feared that they will sleep together, Adila alleged.
How family drove them apart
It was on May 24 that police refused to acknowledge their complaint against their families and said that since they were adults, they were free to take their own decisions.
Noora’s family couldn’t digest the fact that their daughter was engaged in same sex relation. Her family came to Adila’s house and dragged away Noora while the former was also physically restrained by her family.
Later speaking to news channel, Adila Nazrin revealed that her relationship with partner Fathima Noora has also put their life in danger as they are facing ostracization and also receiving death threats.
