Shaheen Bagh drugs seizure: 2 Afghan nationals nabbed, international drug syndicate not ruled out

The NCB chief said that Pakistani smugglers serve as the conduit in illegal trade of drugs & cocaine from Afghanistan to India. As per the modus operandi, heroin is imported to India from Afghanistan and the money earned from selling drugs is sent to Dubai via hawala.

New Delhi: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Friday arrested 2 Afghan nationals in connection with one of the biggest drugs and cash haul from Shaheen Bagh area. Their arrest emboldens the theory of India-Afghanistan drug syndicate, interrogation of held persons is currently on. The two men were arrested from Bhogal area & they can’t speak Hindi. Police also arrested one of the kingpins of drugs racket from Jamia Nagar, last night.

The NCB has not ruled out the possibility of narco-terrorism module operating from Shaheen Bagh area. NCB chief SN Pradhan told newsmen the drugs racket is linked to Pakistan, Afghanistan and the Middle East.

NCB officials have also not ruled out the possibility of Taliban links in the entire drugs trade.

The NCB officials on Thursday seized over 97 kgs of heroin & other narcotics from a house in Shaheen Bagh area. About 30 lakh cash, counting machine & some incriminating documents were also recovered from a residential house in Jamia Nagar.

International drug racket, many kingpins

According to Sanjay Kumar Singh, Deputy DG of NCB, the drug bust is just a small part of the international racket.

“The accused has a small printing shop and used the premises in Shaheen Bagh to store and hide drugs and the money. The main accused are hiding in other countries,” he said.

According to NCB officials, “the drugs were stored in travel bags, backpacks and jute sacks while heroine was put in packets of Flipkart.

The officials suspect that Pakistani smugglers form an important component of this drugs syndicate as the facilitate transfer of heroin & opium from Afghanistan to India.
