Sonali Phogat’s death: Goa’s ‘Curlie’s’ Restaurant back to limelight after 14 years- What happened to British teenager in 2008

The post mortem report mentioned there were “multiple blunt force injuries” on the body of BJP leader Sonali Phogat.

New Delhi: BJP Leader and actor Sonali Phogat died due to heart attack on Monday night (August 22), but before her demise Phogat had visited Goa’s famous ‘Curlie’s’ Restaurant before coming back to her hotel where she complained of uneasiness.

Fourteen years ago,  Curlie’s restaurant was in the limelight and was making headlines when a British teenager had died.

Sonali Phogat, 42, visited the ‘Curlie’s’ restaurant on Monday night and she was brought dead to the St Anthony Hospital in Anjuna in North Goa district from her hotel on Tuesday (August 23) morning.

Earlier, her death was said to be of suspected heart attack but now it has taken a turn and is being treated as a murder case and Anjuna police have arrested her two associates.

What happened in 2008?

In 2008, the restaurant was named and made headlines when it came into the scanner during an investigation  into the death of British teenager Scarlett Eden Keeling.

After the death of the teenager, her mother had claimed that her daughter had said she had visited ‘Curlie’s’ just before coming to the place where she was sexually assaulted and was later left to die on the beach.

According to the advocate Vikram Varma, a lawyer who represented the Scarlett’s mother, Fiona Mackeown, told PTI on Thursday as per the evidence on record, Eden was taken to Curlie’s after her arrival at the Lui’s Shack where she died.

He also said that the evidence revealed  that she could have already been intoxicated with dangerous narcotics after her arrival at Lui’s Shack.

Now, the restaurant is yet again in the limelight following the death of Sonali Phogat. Sonali hailed from Hisar in Haryana and found fame on TikTok, the popular video hosting service now banned in India.
What Sonali’s nephew said: 
According to Sonali’s nephew, Mohinder Phogat, she was taken to Curlie’s by the two arrested accused, Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi, on the fateful night.
He also said that Sonali had straight away gone to her hotel room from Curlie’s before being taken to the hospital the next morning.
Sonali's elder sister also said that at around 11:00 pm she was feeling uneasy and had complained about food.  Also, during a phone call, Sonali had informed her mother that she was getting messy after eating.  Hours before her sudden demise, she had had updated her Twitter display picture and had shared a videos of herself on Instagram. In the new picture that she had shared, she can be seen flaunting her pink dupatta. Who was Sonali Phogat? Sonali Phogat, hailed from Haryana. She had contested the last assembly election from Haryana's Adampur constituency on a BJP ticket against Kuldeep Bishnoi. Sonali had also participated in the reality show 'Bigg Boss' in 2020. In 2016, she had made her acting debut with the TV show 'Amma: Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma'. In 2019, Sonali Phogat was also a part of the web series, 'The Story Of Badmashgarh.' 
What the Curlie’s’ Restaurant’s owner said:
The owner of the Curlie’s restaurant, Edwin Nunes also confirmed that Sonali Phogat had visited his restaurant along with others.

He also said that none of the staff from his restaurant knew him. They were like normal customers for them.

On August 22, Sonali Phogat had arrived in Goa, she was accompanied by her associates Sudhir Sagwan and Sukhwinder Wasi.

On Thursday (August 25), the Goa Police pressed a charge of murder against Sonali’s two associates following the post-mortem report.
