New Delhi: Innovator Sonam Wangchuk is on a 5-day fast as a mark of climate protest for Ladakh and he urged the public to come in solidarity with the cause and join him in the fast on the last day of his protest. Sonam Wangchuk began his protest on India’s 74th Republic Day and a day ago too he made a similar appeal and asked people to participate in the fast and share their support on social media. He also suggested people get together in community places and perform a one-day fast to support the environment in Ladakh.

A day after the innovator started his protest, he issued a video saying that he was under house arrest. In a bond sent by the administration, he was asked to make no public statements to maintain the law and order in Ladakh. He initially decided on Khardungla as the venue for his fast but was asked to change it. He was told to hold the protest at his institute in presence of the security arrangements.

The row began when the innovator cum educator issued a video asking PM Narendra Modi and the government to look into the depleting climatic condition in Ladakh and announced a fast to ‘safeguard Ladakh and the mountains and the 6th Schedule of the Constitution’.

Sonam Wangchuk is the same innovator who inspired Aamir Khan’s character in Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘3 Idiots’.
