New Delhi: Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya has stoked a fresh row with his controversial remarks targeted at Hindu religion.

Last time, the SP leader was in midst of controversy was for poking fun at the sacred Hindu scripture – Ramcharitmanas.

Maurya’s latest tirade at Hinduism comes while purportedly addressing a gathering of people. While slamming the religion practiced by majority of Indians, he claimed that there is no religion called Hinduism.

“Hinduism is not a religion, it is merely a deception, a fraud and hoax,” Maruya said.

He launched a scathing attack on the Brahminic traditions and those abiding by it. In a no-holds barred attack, he slammed the Brahmin community for ‘appropriating’ all the goods and leaving other communities including the backward, Dalits & tribal population in the dark.

He said that Brahmins under the garb of Hinduism, have been exploiting the backward, scheduled caste & tribal classes for their own benefits.

“Had there been Hindu religion, all sections would have got benefitted including the schedule castes, communities & tribal people,” he said.

The SP leader is bound to receive harsh criticism and strong backlash, especially from right wing outfits & Brahminic forums, over belittling & demeaning of the Hindu religion.

Swami’s brush with controversy

This is not the first time that Swami Prasad Maurya has stoked controversy with his lopsided opinion & jeering of the Hindu religion.

Seen as ‘serial offender’ for insulting the beliefs & sentiments of majority community, the SP leader in January 2023 described Ramcharitmanas – a famed Hindu scripture as ‘nonsense book’.

Speaking to a leading news channel, Maruya had said, “Crores of people don’t care to read Ramcharitmanas. This is rubbish. It was written by Tulsidas just for his own pleasure.”
