Sports Minister Anurag Thakur reveals plans to spend sports budget on Khelo India, coaches & other facilities

New Delhi: Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur revealed the plans to spend the sports budget on Khelo India Youth Games and other facilities. While talking to the news agency ANI in Bengaluru, Thakur thanked PM Modi for increasing the sports budget and sanctioning Rs 32oo crore for Khelo India Games. He counted the work done in the field of sports and the key areas where the budget will be spent.

Anurag Thakur said that more than 450 coaches were recruited in the last one-one and a half years. He told the media that experts are being recruited to help with the performance at the international level and all facilities are being provided.

Thakur added that the government has a dedicated indoor stadium for players in Bengaluru. Revealing future plans, he said that Rs 70 crore will be spent on making two hostels for boys and girls of 300 and 330 beds. Currently, the sports centre has 750 beds and the capacity will be increased by 630 beds.

In light of the upcoming elections in Karnataka, the Union Minister also took a jibe at the Congress. He said that let Congress speak anything, there are medical and ration facilities in the state. He added that Congress is not taking Karnataka seriously and does not have a national leader to visit the state.

Thakur was in Bengaluru to attend the inaugural session of the G20 Second Finance and Central Bank Deputies (FCBD). At the event, he spoke about the theme of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and about using G20 to find pragmatic solutions to global challenges such as Covid, food and security, inflation, climate change and geo-political tensions.
