Sunil Jakhar joins BJP, days after quitting Congress

Sunil Jakhar is a veteran politician of Punjab, having spent more decades in politics. In his long political career, he has occupied many high offices and served in the capacity of MLA, MP and even Congress state president.

New Delhi: Former Congress veteran Sunil Jakhar joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday. This comes day after he said goodbye to the grand old party.

Sunil Jakhar joined the BJP in presence of party president JP Nadda and other partymen. Welcoming Jakhar’s entry in the saffron party, Nadda
said that Punjab is facing a difficult time today and it is important that nationalist forces come under one roof to take the state on path of growth & prosperity.

Hailing Jakhar’s entry in BJP, Nadda said that he will be an asset in strengthening the party in Punjab and will also enrich the party unit with his vast experience.

Sunil Jakhar, while speaking to press, got emotional about his dissociation form the party that not just he but his family also served.

“Three generations of my family served the Congress party in past 50 year. I have broken 50-year-old ties with Congress over issues of nationalism, unity & brotherhood in Punjab,” Jakhar said.

Jakhar praised Modi government’s umpteen initiatives in emboldening the unity & integrity of a border state like Punjab.

Sunil Jakhar, one of the top leaders of Punjab Congress was tipped to become party president before Sidhu’s appointment but got sidelined & sidestepped by Delhi leadership. He was a committed Congress solider but the recent insults & snubs allegedly at the instance of Gandhi duo left him disappointed & disillusioned with the party. He was heartbroken when he was removed from all party posts by the Congress disciplinary committee after allegations of anti-party activities against him.

Today, the Punjab Congress in disarray with many top leaders quitting the party. To name a few are Ashwini Kumar, Captain Amarinder Singh and now Jakhar himself.
