Supreme Court grants interim bail to Congress leader Pawan Khera

New Delhi: Pawan Khera gets relief from the Supreme Court as he has been granted interim bail on production before Delhi Magistrate. Senior Congress leader was arrested by Assam police from Delhi airport over his comment about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s father. Khera referred to the PM as Narendra ‘Gautam Das’ Modi, which was seen as a comment on the PM’s father.

The interim bail is applicable till next Tuesday. CJI DY Chandrachud said that in order to protect the petitioner as he applied for regular bail before a jurisdictional court, he shall be released on interim bail till the next date of listing.

Khera was stopped from boarding a flight at Delhi airport on a request from the Assam Police. He was later arrested and the Assam Police opposed the pre-arrest bail.

Congress protested against deboarding and arrest. The party said that first ED was sent to Chhattisgarh and now Pawan Khera was being attacked. From Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot to Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge, party leaders opposed Khera’s arrest, while others began a protest at the airport.

On being deboarded from the flight, Khera said that he was told there was a problem with his luggage, even though he had one handbag. He added that he was told that he cannot go and the DCP wants to meet him. Khera alleged that there was no trace of rules, laws and reasons.

Congress leader Supriya Shrinate alleged that the Congress leaders were heading to Raipur to attend the party’s 85th Plenary Session, she also referred to the incident as ‘dictatorship’.
