New Delhi: Elections are those rare times when political leaders walk the extra mile to woo the electorate, to establish connect with the voters. While doing so, they resort to many electoral strategies including public meeting programs, door-to-door campaign or even election rallies.

In poll-bound Tamil Nadu, a couple of candidates adopted some weird and bizarre means of canvassing and engaged in various activities of common people. Such reach-out tactics during election campaign not just raised eyebrows but have also became the major talking point on social media.

Newsroompost.com came across a couple of candidates from both leading parties of the state – AIADMK and DMK, who hit the streets in their constituency and resorted to means like – selling vegetables, washing people’s clothes and even ‘begging’ to draw attention as well as solicit votes in the upcoming elections.

An account of TN leaders, who adopted eccentric ways

1) Thanga Kathiravan , an AIADMK candidate was seen washing clothes in his assembly constituency – Nagapattinam. In the video, he can be seen wringing out water from clothes after washing them with soap and water. His supporters were also standing there, cheering and praising him. He also promised the electorate that he will gift washing machines to them, if he turns victorious.

2) K.R. Jairam, another AIADMK candidate from Singanalloor, was seen selling vegetables with his supporters. In the photos, the candidate is sitting on the roadside with other vegetable vendors.

3) If AIADMK candidates used bizarre methods to win support of the voter base, DMK candidates were also not behind. Prabhakar Raja, a DMK candidate from Virugamabakkam, was seen cooking dosas at a roadside joint. In the video, he could be seen cooking dosas on a rectangular flat tawa while people around him cheering and making videos of their leader.

4) Another DMK candidate Sampath Kumar, fighting from Idappi seat, was helping women in cleaning raw pulses by taking out stones and other dirt which usually get mixed with raw pulses. In the photo, he is sitting on the ground in a room filled with women who are cleaning pulses in their utensils made of jute.

5) Last video is of an independent candidate from Madurai, who can be seen walking on roads with an empty bowl and literally ‘begging’ for votes. He is walking with a wooden stick in one hand and an empty black bowl in the other. In the video, a woman can also be seen walking along with him.
