This Ganesh Chaturthi, no slaughter & sale of meat in Bengaluru; order calls for complete ban

In a circular in Kanadda issued today, the civic body called for “Prohibition of animal slaughter and sale of meat on the occasion of “Ganesha Chaturthi” day.

New Delhi: As the nation gears up for Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations on August 31, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued orders for complete ban on slaughter & sale of meat in Bengaluru on August 31.

All those areas falling within the jurisdiction of BBMP will have to follow the guidelines.

In a circular in Kanadda issued today, the civic body called for “Prohibition of animal slaughter and sale of meat on the occasion of “Ganesha Chaturthi” day.

Reacting to the order, Congress leader DK Shivakumar said that this was part of BJP’s ‘polarizing politics’ and said that the government was engaging in unnecessary controversies.

Ban on Maha Shivratri & Janmashtami too

The ban on meat sale & slaughter may turn into political battle but this is not the first occasion, when the corporation issued such order.

On Sri Krishna Janmasthami this month, the civic body had issued similar order banning sale of meat and animal slaughter.

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri too, the BBMP issued a circular to this effect on February 22.
