New Delhi: TMC Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien tweeted and informed that the party’s national spokesperson Saket Gokhale has been arrested by Gujarat police following Saket’s tweet about the Morbi bridge collapse. He targeted BJP over the arrest and called it a ‘political vendetta’.

Derek told that Saket Gokhale was allowed to make a phone call to his mother and then his mobile phone was confiscated by the Ahmedabad police. The TMC MP alleged that it is a false case built by Bhartiya Janta Party to attack TMC and Saket. He also said that BJP is taking ‘personal vendetta on another level’.
The cooked up case is filed with the Ahmedabad cyber cell about Saket’s tweet on the Morbi bridge collapse.

Meanwhile, Jaipur airport police station SHO Digpal Singh denied receiving any such information. He said that nobody has informed him or the department.
Saket Gokhale was also among many opposition leaders who criticised the Gujarat government for the Morbi bridge collapse. According to Derek, Saket’s tweet regarding the same has landed him in jail.
On October 31, the bridge over the Machhu river in the Morbi district collapsed killing over 140 people. While many were saved during the rescue operation, the government was criticised for the tender of the bridge. The collapse of the bridge just after it was opened to the public following the renovation invited a backlash. The matter has been in the high court and the Supreme Court.
