New Delhi: In a shocking incident that unfolded in Vaishali, Dabri Extension, southwest Delhi, a 23-year-old man allegedly shot and killed a 42-year-old woman outside her residence on Thursday night.
Minutes later, the same man took his own life with the same country-made pistol on the terrace of a nearby building where he lived with his family. The police, who reported the incident on Friday, are now investigating the possible connection between the two victims.
According to senior officers, the man, identified as Ashish, and the woman, Renu Goyal, had met around two years ago at a local gym. Their friendship had faced disapproval, especially from the woman’s in-laws and her husband. The investigators are currently looking into whether these familial objections could be linked to the tragic murder-suicide.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan stated that preliminary investigations revealed that Ashish and Renu were still on talking terms despite the disapproval from the woman’s family. However, the exact reason behind the deadly sequence of events remains under scrutiny, as no suicide note was found on Ashish or at his residence.
The police received information about the murder at 8:45 pm on Thursday and found Renu’s lifeless body outside her house, shot at point-blank range. The investigation then led them to Ashish’s home, located a short distance away, where they discovered his lifeless body with a gunshot wound to his right temple on the terrace. The police found a country-made pistol near his right hand, indicating he had taken his own life.
As the investigation progresses, the police are actively looking into the text messages exchanged between the two deceased individuals to understand if there were any serious issues or disagreements that might have led to this tragic outcome. Additionally, authorities are determining the source of the firearm used in the incident.
Renu Goyal, the victim, was a housewife, survived by her husband, a property dealer, and their three children. Ashish’s family hails from Barauth in Uttar Pradesh.
The case has been registered as a murder investigation, and the police are continuing to gather evidence and statements from family members, relatives, neighbors, and friends to shed light on the motive behind the chilling events that unfolded on that fateful night.
